Our Family

With almost 50 years of experience in the restaurant business, we’ve learned a thing or two. Our family believes that a meal is about more than the food itself. We believe that a meal should be an experience.

The Kalathas family has owned and operated The Orchards since its opening in 1994. For over 25 years we’ve served our community a menu featuring sophisticated flavors and innovative pairings.

Our founders, Charlie and Tom Kalathas, moved to Chambersburg from Greece in the early 1970s. They began learning the ins and outs of the restaurant business in 1972, and they’ve been refining their craft ever since.

In 2001, Charlie and Tom passed the fine tradition of The Orchards to their kids. Mike, Nick, and Charles Kalathas have continued to uphold the dining standard of excellence for their community. All three are graduates of The Culinary Institute of America.

The Kalathas family today owns and operates: Taverna, C & D Bar and Grill, Orchards Restaurant, Relax Lounge and the Historic Texas Lunch.

Mike Kalathas, Head Chef and Proprietor of The Orchards Restaurant, graduated from The Culinary Institute of America, one of the finest culinary institutes in the United States.

From generation to generation, the legacy of the Kalathas family has found its way to this fine restaurant. That legacy is to welcome patrons from all walks of life while providing the quality of food they expect with the outstanding service they deserve.
